Metal is an amazingly malleable material with endless possibilities. As a traditional material, it has been used for thousands of years. However, advances in technology also offer industrial designers the opportunity to come up with ever more creative ways of conceptualizing beautiful products. Weylandts showcases a variety of metals in our furniture and homeware including brass, copper, steel and aluminium.

A FEW FACTS ABOUT OUR METAL

TRADITIONAL CRAFTSMANSHIP

The art of crafting metal involves specialised skills and deep knowledge of a metal’s characteristics. Some products, like Indian firepits and hammered brass bowls, have been made the same way for hundreds, even thousands of years. We celebrate these traditions and give it a place in the contemporary design world.

BRUSHING & POLISHING

A range of finishes is used to bring out the magic of metal. Polished metal creates a reflective, mirror-like finish while brushed metal has a matte finish with faint paintbrush marks. Hammering is a traditional finish which leaves characterful dents, both timeless and contemporary in its bold patterns.

ANTIQUED & ELECTROPLATED FINISH

Acid etching can be used to give brass, copper and mild steel a lived-in, aged feel called an antiqued finish. Another way to finish metal is through electroplating which provides a pleasant, smooth finish in different colours. Other finishes we use include powder-coated steel, galvanizing and anodizing.
